I already have a really nice spinning bike. But after a total knee replacement, I was having a hard time restoring my knee’s bendability (flexion) – and the spinning bike seemed to just make this worse. I had more success when using the (expensive) recumbent bike at the physical therapy place, and my physical therapist suggested I might want to consider this option at home. So, I looked and looked and found the price range for these so wildly broad – like from a hundred bucks to one or two thousand. I compared the features and reviews for oh-so-many of these and finally settled on this bike as being at the vortex of quality, features and price.
Delivery: the bike arrived early and in good condition. Unfortunately fedex left it leaning up against my garage door (instead of on my front porch). This is a heavier and more awkward box than I expected. It would have been simple to shove it into my house from the front porch. But it was a real challenge to man-handle that big HEAVY box across the garage and up several steps – on my own, with a wonky knee. Honestly, I had almost ordered a different bike just to get Amazon’s “room of choice” delivery. At this point, I was so wishing I had done this.
Assembly: the bike is amazingly well packaged. There was zero damage and all of the parts were ready to go. The actual unboxing was super difficult for me, though. There wasn’t really a way to lay down and unpack things. The box opened on the top and all of the freakishly heavy parts were strapped and taped together in one big blob. I tried, but there wasn’t no way for me to heft all of those parts out of the top of that box. In the end, I had to drag the box in from the garage, through the laundry room, down a hallway and into my exercise room, shove it over on its side and just slice the side of the box open so I could instead all of the parts. Even after this, the body of the bike was really hard for me to lift and put in place. (But then, I did this alone and am a 70-year-old woman with a recently replaced knee.) The actual assembly was a snap, though. I got it set up and operable in no time.
Using the bike: Omg. This bike is a dream to ride. It’s super quiet, doesn’t need to be plugged in, and is amazingly easy to get the right settings all ready to go. Most of all, it’s fantastically comfortable. The bench-like seat and the lumbar supporting seat back are absolutely wonderful. It’s a joy to ride and has been so helpful for recovery of my knee’s bendiness!
I actually look forward to riding this bike and highly recommend it to anyone, bad knee or not.
